Magistrate Department About us

The Magistrate’s Department comprises of two Courts: District “A” Court and District “B” Court. The main objective of the Court to dispose of matters in a timely and just manner. The Magistrates Courts deduce their jurisdiction from the Magistrates Code of Procedure Act Cap 3.17 of the 2002 Revised Laws of St. Christopher and Nevis.

At a time, the courts were traditionally housed in police stations in various parts of the island. The busiest Magistrates Court is the District “A” Court which was housed for decades at the Basseterre Police Station. Subsequently a fire burnt the premises of the High Court and the judicial complex was constructed which now house both the High Court and the District “A” Magistrates Court. The judicial complex was named the Sir Lee L. Moore Q.C. Judicial Complex and is located at West Independence Square Street, for the sitting of the District “B” Magistrates Court.
