HEALTH INFORMATION UNIT

The Health Information Unit assume leadership in providing an information rich environment and in promoting the strategic role that routine information plays in planning and managing health services

The Health Information Unit is responsible for collating and processing all data related to vital and health statistics. The information obtained is not an end in itself, but a means to better decisions in policy design, health planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation of programmes and services including patient care, thus improving overall health service performance and outcome.

Given the health situation in the region in terms of the emergence of new health problems and the reemergence of old threats, major emphasis continue to be placed on the various disease surveillance programmes. Programmatic areas include surveillances in communicable disease (including HIV/AIDS, Expanded programme on Immunization); Public Health Laboratory Information System (PHLIS, for Enteric data); Non Communicable diseases (DM, HTN, CVD); and Mortality data.
