Attorney General Initiatives
By far the most important undertaking in 2016 will be the initiation of the Electoral Reform project. In the 2015 poll, a clear mandate was given that we must effect a comprehensive, all embracing reform of how we choose our representatives. To this end, 2016 will see the beginning of consultation with respect to this open and honest look at good governance.
We intend to hold quarterly training retreats to ensure that there is personnel development needed to meet the challenges of the Twenty First Century. Also we aim to recruit more senior staff to the Ministry in order to better position the Government in conducting business both locally and regionally.
In collaboration with the Eastern Carribean Supreme Court there are plans in place to utilize the latest technolgy inside the court to facilitate document handling and the production of court records. The Judicial Electronic Management System (JEMS) has been in place for 10 years and there are plans to upgrade and modernize the court to a more efficient system.
The Attorney General has been given the mandate to clear up all matters. An electronic document system and a process tracking system will soon be in place for all matters coming into the Attorney General Chambers. Therefore, matters will be dealt with more expeditiously and with greater clarity.
