MINISTRY OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, AGEING AND DISABILITIES CHAMPIONS INTERGENERATIONAL BONDING

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing, and Disabilities took a significant step towards promoting harmony between generations by organizing the ‘Building Resilience Across Generations Forum’ on October 2, 2023, at the East Basseterre Community Center. The main goal of this forum was to equip seniors with the necessary tools for a fulfilling retirement journey.

Recognizing the importance of nurturing harmonious relationships across different age groups, the event aimed to strengthen the bonds between generations and inspire younger individuals to actively plan for their own retirement years. The Honourable Isalean Phillip, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Ageing, and Disabilities, addressed the attendees and emphasized the value of mutual respect and collaboration between generations.

“To commemorate the Month of Older Persons, we have organized an informative panel. Our aim is to build intergenerational bonds by providing you with valuable information on resilience and planning for the challenges and opportunities that come with aging, regardless of the stage of life you may be in,” said Minister Phillip.

She stressed the pivotal role that each age group plays in society and highlighted that a promising future can be achieved through shared understanding, mutual respect, and collective experiences. Minister Phillip encouraged participants to actively engage in the discussions and ask questions for their own benefit. She expressed optimism that the sessions would be both engaging and enlightening for everyone involved.

The forum featured interactive sessions, workshops, and panel discussions that focused on the importance of understanding, collaboration, and preparation for the future. Attendees were given a platform to share their personal experiences, challenges, and aspirations, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect.

The Building Resilience Across Generations Forum stands as a testament to the ministry’s unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive society where every individual, regardless of age, is valued, understood, and equipped for the challenges and joys of life.
