Intellectual Property Office

The Intellectual Property Office is responsible for the protection of all intellectual property namely Trademarks, Patents and Copyrights. At this time, the office registers trademarks, receives patent applications, and assists in the protection of copyrights.

The protection of intellectual property enables the owners or the rights holders of that property to benefit from the exploitation of their Patent or Copyright while preventing or sanctioning others from illegally using it without the permission of the owners or rights holders.

The Intellectual Property Office is currently in transition with a view to upgrading its capacity.  They recently automated the Trademark system with the Industrial Property Automation System (IPAS) and have plans to launch IPAS online by mid-2016.

St. Kitts was once known as the Gibraltar of the West Indies for its domination of 18th- century colonial battles. How the island rose to become the world’s leader in sugarcane cultivation, an inspiration for the industrial revolution in the process.
