VACANCY NOTICE – MECHANIC

The Human Resource Management Department on behalf of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities; Domestic Transport wish to invite suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Mechanic.

The role of the Mechanic in Public Works Department is to inspect and repair vehicles, machinery, and trucks. The Mechanic will be responsible for performing and overseeing maintenance inspections, assemble mechanical components and perform repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct regular maintenance on machinery, systems, and automotive vehicles.

2. Meet with clients/ vehicle users to better understand their concerns and identify the issue.

3. Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.

4. Examine machines and oversee diagnostic test to determine functionality problems.

5. Design a plan of action for all maintenance task and upgrades.

6. Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.

7. Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.

8. Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle users.

9. Perform vehicle assessment and alert clients on issues that will prohibit their vehicle from passing inspection.

10. Servicing and repairing of equipment, vehicles, and machinery.

11. Follow strict safety regulations – including wearing the right safety gear.

12. Assist in training less – experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing and repair of vehicles and equipment to further their abilities

13. Perform general labour duties when necessary.

14. Perform any other related duties as required by the Quarry Manager in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualifications
  • Certification from vocational school or trade school.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.

Knowledge & Skills:

In addition to the requirements above, the post holder must have the following skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • In depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Dexterity, skilled in performing task especially with hands.
  • Attentive to details.
  • Ability to manage time.
  • Be able to be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or out
  • Prolong standing or in stationary position
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.
  • Ability to work in confined and small tight spaces.
  • Ability to lift weights, and endure long periods of standing, squatting and kneeling, while performing repetitive activities
  • Ability to understand and willingness to follow policies and procedures of the Government systems.
  • Ability to work around dust and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
  • Able to wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision, and hardhat protection

Salary: K22-K27 ($41,196-$51,180) per annum
